Comparing Velocity Between Teams

High Velocity Cheetah

Kane Mar recently published a short and to the point article about comparing velocity between teams.

I would like to add the following thought:

What would you gain by comparing teams’ velocities? You shouldn’t measure team performance by its velocity in the first place. So comparing teams by velocity just doesn’t make sense!

These days I find myself looking at the Agile Principles a lot, and I’m amazed by how much ground they cover. There is also a Principle for the issue at hand:

Working software is the primary measure of progress.
— 7th Agile Principle

Isn’t that beautiful? 🙂
